Review:
I was looking for a LCD monitor with consistent color, great viewing angles, black blacks and smooth whites. The LaCie 324 is that monitor.
I had literally looked and called all over Austin trying to find a LCD display of the superior S-PVA or S-IPS type. No one had them in stock. No one. Except one -- Precision Camera. LCDs used to have a bad reputation for consistency and viewing angles and rightly so. The S-PVA and S-IPS technologies were the solution to that problem. Great! Problem is, those technologies come at a cost so are not easily found. What is easily found is the inferior TN-type that exhibit all the problems that LCD are infamous for. I was so pleased to find that Precision Camera supplies the superior LaCie 324. This is a very, very well made monitor. Not one dead or stuck pixel. A solid stand that adjusts in height, tilt and swivel. It has additonal USB ports. It has great viewing angles. On paper it looks great. Thankfully, it looks even better in use. Consistent colors, consistent white, no dead or stuck pixels. The menu is well laid out but it takes some getting used to as there are no physical buttons -- just a touch to a selected area on the bottom right of the panel. All the goodies are here: gamma, temp, RGB gain, RGB bias and much, much more.
What is really special about this monitor is that it's useful for video editing! I has HDMI and DVI with HDCP and includes the famous Faroudja DCDi for deinterlacing. The video is just as good as the photo.
In the world of professional monitors, this monitor is a steal. My search has ended and it ended with the LaCie 324. Problems I've encountered:
No real problems -- the menu structure and the touch controls took a bit getting used to. No tactile response. Previous equivalent item owned:
